On the summits of the Hill of St. Peter soars the basilica of San Pietro (St. Peter), built in the 8th century but almost completely reconstructed in the 11th century in Romanesque Lombard style. Beside it are two towers and a bishop's palace, the remains of a fortified citadel from the 11th century.
