Museum of Farm Life in Roviano

At 523 meters above sea level, with approximately 1300 inhabitants, Roviano is an agricultural center in a dominant position on the Aniene Valley, between the Natural Parks of Monti Lucretili and Simbruini.
The Museum has its headquarters in the beautiful Baronial Palazzo located in Piazza S. Giovanni, in front of the church of S. Giovanni Battista Decollato, 13th-century origin, with an 18th-century appearance.
The Palazzo is a powerful monument, originally ordered to be constructed by the Abbot of Subiaco as a fortress; over the centuries it passed through the hands of diverse families of Roman heritage, going through various reconstructions and modifications over time. The building has a pentagonal layout: from a Gothic portal surmounted by coats of arms you reach the internal courtyard, where, in summer, representations, conferences, and exhibitions take place; in winter they are held in a nice conference hall; the tower, from which you can enjoy a beautiful panorama over the valley, is actually under restoration but should be open shortly.
Since 2001, a large part of the building has been home to the Museum of Farm Life, which is perhaps the largest and most important of its kind in Lazio, laid out with very relevant museum criteria and is very efficient in its level of communication.
In the large and bright areas of the Castle, visitors will see the activities of agricultural life and of the town from years past until recently, organized in a thematic manner, reconstructing the work and living environments. The beauty of the places, film and photo projections, narrations, the use of materials such as dirt, rocks, and wood, and several paintings (owned by the nearby Museum of Anticoli Corrado) represent the landscape and daily life, making the visit more varied and interesting even to young people.
