Italy Travelguide Lazio Fianello
Versione italiana  English Version

Fianello

Fianello is a small medieval town on a hill, in a landscape of sweet hills that heralds to that of Umbria. The town conserves intact its appearance and atmosphere of times past, with very lovely views. On Sunday, we recommend a guided underground tour, where there is an intricate cave once used as a cellar; periodically festivals in costume are held here. Near the castle, you will find the Church of S. Maria Assunta, of medieval origin and with an interesting Romanesque crypt. In 1950, during street works, beautiful Roman sculptures were found, coming from a villa and dating back to probably around 100 B.C. Unfortunately no way has been found to exhibit them on location.
