The the Reatino, you will find the beautiful beechtree forests in all of the areas of Terminillo and Monti Reatini.
Why, then, is the beechtree of St. Francis, only 8 meters tall, so famous? Its trunk and its branches intertwine in a dreamlike form, creating loops, circumvolutions, waves, and knots which are absolutely unusual and in a particular harmony. Legend says that, during a thunderstorm, the plant assumed this form to better protect St. Francis, who had stopped under its foliage because of the rain.
Surely the beechtree of St. Francis is a stop not to miss in the discovery of Reatino and Santa Valley.
The beechtree is located in Cappano, in the commune of Rivodurti.
When you reach Rivodurti, you take the street that goes out of town, very scenic, in a steep uphill climb with sharp turns; you continue for about 6 km (the street goes past a small hamlet and becomes narrower) until a very small church in a field on the right side.
There are stairs here that lead to the beechtree 50 meters below.
The entire route is well-indicated with visible signs.
