Italy Travelguide Abruzzo Pereto Castle
Versione italiana  English Version

Pereto Castle

It is a castle-enclosure: that is, the castle does not contain internal buildings but rises above the town ready to house its inhabitants and their goods in case of danger.
It seems that the castle, traced back to the 14th century, is a sort of added fortification around a large, square tower, a donjon probably from the 12th century.
Still, the fortification is pretty atypical, in as much as the "enclosure" isn't limited to being a simple fortified wall, as often is the case for these kind of castles, but it is configured with two quadrilateral towers which give the outward appearance of a true fortress with entrance to the north.
The building is privately owned, but the owners tell us that when they have spare time, they are happy to show the castle to visitors.
