Cala di Luna
The beauty of its nature make this beach a true natural monument. Cala di Luna is the sea mouth of the splendid Codula di Luna, a long canyon running in depth between white limestone walls: when it reaches the coast the canyon opens to form a lagoon and a candid coastal dune that makes the beach it self.On the left side the limestone wall appears drilled by six huge caves opening towards the beach. Here several free climbing roads have been mapped, all quite difficult. Over the right side stands, high and slender, the massif of Su Masongiu. From this one, during many thousand years fell down enormous square blocks that formed Punta Lastroni. Cala di Luna maybe reached in three different ways: - The easiest is to take one of the boats that in summer connect at regular times Cala di luna with the village of Cala gonone. - Another way is to follow the plesant track connecting Cala di Luna and Cala Fuili (where the road ends that from Cala Gonone goes southward), the walk is of about one hour and half . - Last, there is a track going down in the Codula di Luna from the end of the road to the beach. Undoubtedly this is the nicest solution, but it is also quite demanding: nearly a 4 hours walk on a difficult ground! In case we suggest to provide for going back by sea, to avoid the hottest hours and to start with the right equipment (especially with sufficient water in reserve).
