Fiordo-Ciolo
Downward, as far as the end if the Italian Boot, 7km from S.Maria di Leuca and 3km from Gagliano del Capo, we find the Fiordo Ciolo, a protected natural beauty. Here the sea penetrates between rock walls approximately 100mt high, to end in a clear little sandy beach. From this one a path climbs between rocks and then between fields heading up to the little town of Gagliano del Capo, and for many years this path has been the only way to the sea from the village. A very pleasant walk in springtime, at morning, when sun is not too hot. Some stone walls are also equipped for free climbers. Its name "Fiordo Ciolo" , Ciolo in the local dialect means raven, derives from the Ciolo's Cave, also said Grotta Fresca, that is 100mt. long with two siphons, one at the beginning and one at the end, inside there is a source of fresh water.
