The Friuli Venezia Giulia region is famous for the spectacular city of Trieste and for the picturesque hilly landscapes in the province of Udine, Gorizia, and Pordenone, of the Alps, and of the one high plain of Carso with its caves. Cividale del Friuli, Cormons, Palmanova, Villa Manin in Passariano, the archaeological site of Aquileia, the Sacrarium of Redipuglia, and the castles of Diramare and Duino are also worth visiting. Among the nature itineraries we also mention the Natisone Valleys and the Marano Lagoon. For those who love beach-life, we recommend the famous beaches of the Adriatic: Lignano, Sabbiadoro, Bibione, Grado, and Sistiana. For your vacations in the mountains, countryside, and in the hills the farmstay is ideal, where you can go trekking or horse-riding and taste excellent wines of the region. You can rent apartments or vacation houses on the sea or stay in country houses, often with swimming pools. In the city and historic towns we recommend staying in a room in a bed and breakfast.
