Description

The Villa has a garden and is positioned in the centre of the town of Scanno. The house is kept with particular care for all, even the more minor details and embellished by original ancient furniture. The B&B is distributed on two floors and has an apartment and 5 double rooms, each of which has a private bathroom.
All rooms are double and may, on request, be equipped with a third bed. They all have a TV (color, standard), a bathroom with a shower, a hairdryer and a welcome basket.
The apartment has an independent entrance and may house 4/6 people. It has a TV, 2 bathrooms (each with a shower), a kitchen (with 4 fires, oven and a washing machine). Autonomous central heating.
The common areas include a balcony, a living room with a chimney and a terrace where, during the summer, breakfast is served.

Surroundings

The B&B is situated in the centre of the town of Scanno, at not more than 200 meters from the main square. The road crosses Scanno and offers, along its winding ascent, truly magnificent sights with traits in which it is cut into the cliff and others in which it overlooks meadows, woods and the small towns of Castrovalva, Villago and Frattura. The road crosses the "Gole del Sagittario" gorges and it flanks a truly picturesque heart shaped lake before reaching the village. Scanno is in the mountains, at 1050 m. a.s.l., in the midst of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo natural park. Renowned are its sculpted portals as well as it baroque balconies, its Renaissance churches and its stone alleys. The ancient uses which see local women using traditional costumes which are somewhat reminiscent of the east with a tight bodice under which the full gown and its many folds opens flaring like a flower and a proud posture beneath the turban like headcloth are still in use. The town is also known to connoisseurs for the excellent sheep and goat cheeses, for the lamb and pork meat, for the almond desserts and for the glazed chocolate and must.
During the winter one may appreciate the snow whereas in the summer one may bathe in the lake. In the spring the many flowers cover the meadows and in the autumn the colors render the surroundings truly suggestive.

Innumerable places may be toured in the surroundings such as Anversa, sung by the poet D'Annunzio, or Sulmona, hometown of the Latin poet Ovidio. One may likewise take walks in the mountains or go for a mountain bike ride along the many trails.

How to reach us through public transportation:
Busses connect Scanno to the trainstation of Sulmona. The bus stop is 50 meters from the B&B.
There are bus connections from Rome and Pescara.
The closest airports are those of Pescara (95km) and Rome (180km).

Activities

The B&B organizes: tours of the surrounding towns; guide for expert trekking and mountain bike excursions; wine, cheese, cold meat and dessert tasting; lunches; kitchen courses; horseback rides and rental; pedalo on the lake; bicycles; rental of traditional costumes for photographs; ski lessons and ski pass.

Food, wine and crafts

Buffet breakfast which includes milk, tea, espresso coffee, American coffee, hot chocolate, bread, butter, marmalades, home made cakes, various varieties of cereals, yoghurt, fruit juices, cold meat and cheese.
The owners also have an excellent restaurant, only 100 meters from the B&B. It offers all the B&B guests who wish to find an excellent cuisine and a varied wine assortment a cordial and welcoming reception. There are approximately 40 places subdivided in two rooms both of which are elegant and very well kept. The restaurant offers a great variety of local specialties offering traditional dishes prepared with selected local products. In the surroundings there are different country houses where one may buy local cheese and honey. In Sulmona one may buy the renowned comfits.
