Description

The House is just at the bottom of Italian peninsula, at 30km from  Santa Maria di Leuca, where the meeting of Adriatic and Ionio seas is marked by a huge lighthouse, In a natural environment ideal for relax and quiet, it is only 2km from a fabulous sea, with golden sand beaches and fascinating caves.
The building is a XVII century manor farm, restored by means of traditional techniques and materials maintaining the original volume and typology while rendering it fit to modern exigencies. It is surrounded by different cultures and ornamental plants as palms, oleanders, fat plants, which have been   skilfully inserted in the rural context made of rocks and small stone walls.
Hospitality is in lodges at ground floor: 6 two rooms apartments with living room and kitchenette, double room with private bathroom. The rooms have the original vaulted ceilings and are furnished with restored family furniture, they are fresh in summer and warm  in winter, thanks to their very thick walls.
As for food, quality is our goal. Our menus are typically country ones and very varied: our restaurant is open also for outer visitors, after resevation.

Surroundings

The suggestive and varied landscape of Salento shows high and uneven coasts with numberless caves and clefts (east coast, Adriatic sea) and soft sandy beaches (west coast, Ionian sea).
Leuca's origins are very ancient, as the many Messapic, Greek and Roman inscriptions testify in the various rocky caves. The place owes its name to Saint Mary of Leuca, in honour of Leuca's Madonna "De Finibus Terrae", who every year is celebrated by a solemn procession with boats. Near the Basilica the huge lighthouse (48m high, the second in Italy). Elegant XIX century villas overlook the enchanting promenade.
In the inland country sceneries with olive trees spreading to the horizon marked by the classic tiny stone walls and by the characteristic “pajare”, peasant little stone constructions. The small urban centres show remarkable examples of art and architecture from Romanesque to Baroque and still untouched traditional practices and uses (craftsmanship, wrought iron and other typical local products).
The main destinations of historic,artistic and tourist interest are Otranto, Gallipoli, but above all Lecce, with its famous Baroque monuments. The natural Park of Porto Selvaggio is on the Ionian coast, 12km north of Gallipoli.

Activities

Beside all the activities normal in a sea holiday, we organise:
Boat excursions to visit S.Maria di Leuca's beautiful caves;
guided visits of the area;
bike renting to go about in country white roads;
local typical ceramics classes;
visit to a textile factory producing typical traditional Salento's textiles and to a  craft laboratory of wrought iron;
diving and diving classes;
cuisine classes in the house organised by Mrs. Palmira;
sighting the different agricoltural activities in the farm.

Food, wine and crafts

Our main production is olive oil. Beside, with our fruits and vegetables we produce delicious jams, fruit liquors, different types of sauces and various vegetables preserve in honey garlic. We also have many types of honey: of eucalyptus, all flowers, thyme, rosemary, and also top quality Salento's wines as Negroamaro Salice and Primitivo of Manduria.
Our cuisine is accurate in every detail and uses chiefly selected products of our farm or typical of the area, for typical Salento's receipts, employng mainly vegetables and legumes.
